Portrait of a Tree; Where Paper Once Was; Again

Joseph Bantum

What I do was put best by my dad, “I love how your measure of a good day was who you met.” I use both portraiture and abstract pictures as a way to explore my relationships and connection to my surroundings. My abstract work often draws from the way walls age and accumulate marks over time, turning them into “bodies” that contain soul and a story. In many ways, my work is a call for people to begin noticing the world around them. My work is an active practice of getting to see and meet the world around me with the same love I give to people.
